Honda Fit City Review – Any decent fitter will not hesitate to tell you how great their hatchback is. Our test car came with the CVT and a manual transmission, adding the base price to $22,000, however, if you choose the standard Fit , you could be looking at $16,000 for a new car.
A common question: Is the Honda Fit the modern version of the old Civic Si? After all, the current Fit only has 130 horsepower but, again, it weighs about 2500 pounds.
Honda Fit City Review
I’m no stranger to the Civic Si. I had the original torsion bar Civic Si in addition to the EG- and EK-chassis cars—as well as second-generation CRXs. My husband currently drives a 2014 Civic Si. Yes, yes, I’ve been around these cars quite a bit.
Honda Fit Review: First Look
Although I wish for the former, I wouldn’t call the Fit a Si replacement – at least the EX-L has the Navi model we tested. The Civic Si just lacks the trappings. Yes, the numbers can go up, but the driving experience isn’t quite the same. I know our test car was equipped with a CVT transmission, but the whole car doesn’t remind me of my old faithful. So I say judge the Fit for what it is: a modern long wagon.
The main thing I liked about our Fit loader: the sound system. Yes, it sounds trivial, but that’s the one thing I don’t like about our latest Civic Si—it doesn’t have a radio. And I don’t care if this button is a safety feature it’s probably going to punch a hole in my head. I like it.
I also like the large doors of the Fit. If you think you need an SUV because it’s easy to get in and out of, check out the Fit. Open doors are kind. (I know this isn’t a big concern for most of us here, but for the general public, it’s kind of a thing.)
The large doors combined with the flat seats—too much for me to ignore, to be honest. I also found the A-pillars too wide.
Honda Fit Ex L Review And Test Drive
Driving experience: Pressing the Econ button, the Seven feels sluggish—lifeless. And the CVT feels lifeless. The shifter has a sporty feel, but things just get noisy. I was more than happy to turn off the Econ button and put it in D. It would make for a great daily driving experience. It’s not a Civic Si.
I wonder if Fit’s toughest competition will come from another market. Our package includes the top-of-the-line Fit at $21,520 For $21,500 I can get a Civic Sport with a six-speed manual—$22,300 for a CVT can then compare well. I went all the way to the tree. The more I think back to the Civic Sport, the more I want to revisit it. What about the Civic Si? It’s a bit pricey at $24,300—and, of course, it’s the true heir to the Civic Si name.
Back to the Fit, I’d like to drive two other versions: the base LX with the six-speed manual (MSRP $16,190) and the six-speed manual Fit Sport (MSRP $17,500). When it’s more dressed up, the Fit seems to run inside the Civic. Keep the price under $20,000 and you’ll be happier. Maybe that’s when we get our old school Civic Si.
The Fit EX-L Looks expensive for what it is. I know it’s the top end, and the base model starts at $16,000. But do you know what the Fit EX-L looks like? Answer: a $16,000 Seven.
Honda Fit Sport Review: 2012 Honda Fit Sport
In fact, I think the retail price with the manual spread will show well. This engine is loud and powerful. That means a constant, loud 3000-rpm note that sets the whole scene. As David said, it doesn’t really matter if the “econ” mode is turned off, but it doesn’t make it quieter.
It provides good fuel economy. And that is the appeal of the CVT. We got about 38 mpg on the highway—1 mpg higher than the EPA estimate.
Looking at it from the outside, I think this is one of Honda’s most attractive cars. Definitely the best skin.
A great car with a great engine. And this is the engine management, you can turbo everything!

I have never met a car with a CVT that I like. I want to like it but I will never get a CVT or a stop/start system. Can’t stand one of them. And it’s getting harder and harder to find a car without a car.
2018 brings Honda Sensing to the Fit-lane clock, lane keeping, emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and departure warning. If technology is important to you, I think the Fit is the lowest price of entry for all of that. Unfortunately the technology is available in Hondasonly equipped CVT.
I’ll admit that the engine is too old for me as I get older, but the new Fit makes the first new car for the little ones. Safe, reliable, and spacious. Honda’s four-door sedan enters 2019 with minor changes. The Honda Sensing safety system has been added to the Fits, with Platinum Pearl replacing White Orchid Pearl as the exterior color.
The Fit is positioned below the Civic in Honda’s lineup. Although it’s classified as a subcompact, the Fit’s smart package provides plenty of interior space compared to its exterior dimensions.

All Fits come with a 1.5 4-cylinder engine that produces 130 hp and 114 lb-ft of torque when mated to a six-speed manual, and 128 hp and 113 lb-ft or when matched with a CVT. The CVT is the top dog when it comes to mileage, scoring an EPA-rated 33/40 city/highway in LX form and 31/36 in Sport, EX, and EX-L trims. Those who want to paddle their own score 29/36 in all three dimensions.
The 2018 Fit received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA (out of a possible five stars). The Fit received a Superior front crash rating by the IIHS, measured in part by the Fit’s ability to avoid crashes at 12- and 25-mph autobrake exam. The tests were conducted in a Fit that offered the Honda Sensing suite of safety features. Honda Sensing includes advanced technology with forward collision and pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, exit ramps and ramps, and ramps. Honda Sensing is available on LX and Sport trim levels and standard on EX and EX-L.
The Fit is an example of smart packaging, as it offers as much interior space as the full-size Civic sedan. With the rear seats folded down, the Seven can accommodate 16.6 cubic feet of space, expanding to 52.7 cubic feet with the seats folded down. Front and rear seat legroom are 41.4 and 39.3 inches, respectively.
The 2019 Honda Fit LX comes with a 160-watt stereo with four speakers, USB input, Bluetooth audio streaming, and a 5.0-inch color LCD screen. Sport and EX versions add another USB port in front of the console, a 180-watt sound system with six speakers, a high 7.0-inch touchscreen, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Exclusive to the EX is built-in stereo and SiriusXM reception, while the EX-L is the only one to offer satellite reception.
Honda Fit (2021) Launch Review
In our recent test of the Honda Fit Sport, we said “few cars leave a small footprint while giving passengers the cargo room of a large car.” And although it only has 130 hp, the Manuwa-transmission Fit scores from 0-60 in a good 8.4 seconds. It was handled equally well. We found that “the Fit is stable in corners, and the ride is quick, precise, and heavy.” Because of these qualities, the Fit continues to be popular in the subcompact segment.
