“The Fabia will be replaced by an electric car at its price point, and we’re working on that,” Zellmer said. “At the moment, the biggest issue is the cost of battery electric cars, especially when it comes to producing the Fabia car. It’s going to be a bit of a struggle,” he said.
The British publication reports that the new all-electric model will be based on an early version of Volkswagen’s MEB architecture. It will be one of VAG’s last electric vehicles before the joint venture switches to the new SSP platform.
On the design front, the Fabia successor will sport Skoda’s new design language, which is said to have been foreshadowed by the Vision 7S concept. This means the new model could look more like a small crossover than a classic hatchback like today’s Fabia.
It is currently unknown whether this new EV will carry the Fabia name. Skoda wants to switch to an all-electric model line by the end of the decade, and may decide to give some of its zero-emission models new names not historically associated with the brand, such as the Fabia.

Zellmer also confirmed that Skoda will release a production version of the Vision 7S concept later this decade, along with an electric city car and crossover. Two more battery-powered cars are coming soon, including the successor to the Fabia.
Skoda may be forced to end production of the Fabia in 2025, four years after the current generation’s debut, when Euro 7 emissions standards come into force, as the required changes will make it prohibitively expensive.
Speaking to Autocar, Skoda CEO Klaus Zellmer admitted that with Euro 7, the Fabia won’t be affordable. Even after the recent price hike, the Skoda Fabia starts at €18,300 ($20,206) in Germany and £18,600 ($23,177) in the UK, making it one of the cheapest models in the segment. .
