Chevrolet Spark City Review – The Chevrolet Spark has become an extremely popular car in recent years, and it’s easy to see why. The 5-door hatchback comes with decent kit as standard, and its compact dimensions make it a fantastic city car. Unfortunately, you can’t buy a new Spark anymore, so you’ll have to go for a used or pre-owned model. The best way to do this is as a car rental or through pcp car finance.

We’ve broken down the Spark into its best and worst parts so you can see if the Spark is the right car for you. Don’t worry if it doesn’t, because you can always go for rivals Fiat Panda or Skoda Citigo.

Most of the cool city cars have a very sweet and retro style that is popular these days. However, the Spark’s large grill, big badging and large headlights give it an aggressive atmosphere and a confident, sporty stance.

If you are a regular city commuter and want to stick to narrow winding streets, Spark will suit you perfectly. It’s a great city car, and although it can struggle at higher speeds, it still handles itself confidently. The good news is that the Spark also handles rough terrain and potholes at reasonable speeds. Just don’t try to take any big bumps in the road at high speed because the suspension may not be able to handle it! It’s worth noting that the body is a bit more than most city cars, but the steering is still very manageable.

When it comes to city cars, the Spark has good interior space so you can comfortably seat adults in the back. But like the problem with most city cars, you won’t find much space in the trunk. It’s only 170 litres, so if you want a bigger boot you’ll have to go with another car in the Spark class.

As for the interior, it’s a little on the plain side, but it has good build quality. However, it would have been better if the Spark had come with better technology as standard, as base trim levels don’t even include central locking or power windows.

If you want more equipment, you’re better off going for one of the higher-end models of the Spark, otherwise you’ll only have the basics. And while the boot isn’t great and the engines can be a little noisy, the Spark does a fantastic job of being just a small city car. The Spark offers great value for money, and if you live in the city or are a new driver, the Spark will suit you perfectly.

For buyers who want a greener vehicle and don’t have a long commute — and live in California or Oregon — the Spark EV is a viable option. The 1.2-liter I-4 is replaced by a permanent magnet AC motor that produces an incredible 140 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. We wonder if it will be called the Spark SS. The EPA estimates a range of 82 miles on a single charge, and charging time depends on which charger you use: the SAE Combo DC Fast Charger goes from 80% charge in about 20 minutes, while a standard 240-volt charger It takes about seven hours or about 17 hours to charge at 120 volts.

The Chevrolet Spark is good value for the price and has a surprisingly roomy back seat for such a small car. With 35.2 inches of rear legroom and more cargo space than the competition, the Spark is truly usable. In our first test of the 2013 Chevrolet Spark, we said, “[it] may not be the fastest car on the road, but its space-efficient design, standard features and impressive driving behavior may make it the best car for the city’s money.”

The Spark is Chevrolet’s smallest and cheapest offering. This diminutive hatchback has been sold in North America since the 2013 model year, but the pint-sized Spark has a longer and more interesting history than you might expect. Chevy charges a reasonable price for the collision avoidance technology, which we highly recommend, but it’s limited to the range-topping 2LT.

The Chevy Spark is a subcompact car that’s the kind of city-friendly, affordable choice that buyers forget when gas prices are low and stick to when they’re high. This could be the Spark’s year, so plan to share it with a dwindling list of competitors, including the Nissan Versa, Hyundai Accent and Kia Rio. 

While the Spark is certainly behind the times when it comes to crash-avoidance technology, the Spark has its merits. We rate it an average of 4.0 out of 10, but let’s remember that this is a cheap little ride. (Read more about how we rate cars.)

The Spark only comes as a hatchback, which is perfect for us. Look for the 1.4-liter inline-4 to rush—no, that’s not right—to eventually deliver 98 horsepower to the front wheels. There’s a Spark Activ trim that looks a little tacky, but this little hatchback won’t be hitting the road anytime soon. Fuel economy isn’t as impressive as you’d expect because the 4-cylinder has to work pretty hard. Look for 33 mpg combined with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) or a 5-speed manual transmission.  The Kick comes with seven airbags, but that’s about where the safety story ends. Don’t look for automatic emergency braking, which is standard on almost every new car.  How much does the 2022 Chevrolet Spark cost? Chevy sells the 2022 Spark in LS, 1LT, 2LT and Activ trim levels. Prices for 2022 start at $14,990.  Every Spark comes with air conditioning and a touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, so there’s little reason to spend more than the 1LT’s power windows and locks. Automatic emergency braking is an optional extra only on the 2LT, and while the option itself is only $295, you’ll spend nearly $19,000 to unlock it.  Where is the 2022 Chevrolet Spark built? There’s purposeful, back-to-basics styling for the 2022 Chevy Spark, but we wouldn’t exactly call it a super small car. If anything, it was more attractive before Chevy updated it a few years ago. We rate it 3 out of 10.

The hatchback’s silhouette is good enough, but the details are bland on the outside and equally uninspiring on the inside. Spark Activ models look a little rough with their unpainted side trim, but we’d put our money on a used Subaru Crosstrek for the fabric to match the trim.

How fast is the Chevrolet Spark? A 98 was a commendable score at the end of 10th grade algebra, but not a good number when it comes to horsepower. Of course, 2022 hits
